How to Create Your Own Entertainment while at Home

As we all hunker down in our homes to do our part and practice self isolation, it is becoming more and more apparent that we aren’t completely sure how to entertain ourselves without our usual outside festivities. While the adjustment period has been challenging for some more than others, if you look at the situation from a different perspective, you will see that self quarantine has a silver lining.

Without our everyday distractions at the tips of our fingers, we now have the opportunity to explore and discover new activities we normally wouldn’t think about or have time for. If you’re bored at home, take a minute to look through these ways to entertain yourself while staying healthy during self isolation.

If you love music, TV, and movies, self isolation is already off to a great start because there’s no shortage of content in this field of entertainment. While we can’t attend concerts in person or go to an actual movie theater, there are plenty of ways to get as close to the real thing as possible. Fill up your days with these fun activities that guarantee hours of entertainment.

Learn to Play an Instrument

If there was ever a good time to bust out that old guitar sitting in your closet collecting dust, now is it! Learning to play an instrument is a productive and rewarding experience that most of us don’t usually have time for. Well, now that you have all the time in the world, this is your chance to flex your artistic talents. Even though music teachers aren’t an option, the internet is your next best alternative.

With millions of Youtube videos and music websites galore, there is an abundance of resources available to anyone with a computer and access to the internet. If you aren’t so sure that this is a worthwhile activity to try during your time stuck at home, the various health benefits of playing an instrument may change your mind. Stress relief, exercise, and improved coordination are just a few of the benefits you can experience once you start playing an instrument.

Live Stream Concerts

Even though tailgating and in-person concerts are on a temporary pause right now, that doesn’t mean you can’t rock out to your favorite artists right from your living room. Tons of top artists, music venues, and social media platforms are boosting public morale as we self quarantine by live streaming concerts. Whether you want to dress up for the occasion or jam out to the music in your comfiest pair of pajamas, you’re in for a unique event that you’ll never forget. To give you a taste of what to expect, here are a few of the artists and events that have performed or are set to perform this month.

Hard Rock’s “Can’t Stop the Music Virtual Series”

Hard Rock Hotel & Casino is hosting a bunch of rockin’ concert live streams perfect for everyone practicing self isolation. “Can’t Stop the Music Virtual Series” is featuring hot Spotify playlists and artists like Callum Amies, Tyler Bryant, and Jeffrey Osborne. Facebook Live

On April 11, Facebook Live will also be contributing to the self quarantine concerts by hosting Human to Human, a benefit event from noon to midnight (EST). Confirmed performances include Butch Walker, Grouplove, Hunter Hayes, Jensen McRae, Jewel, Nicolas Petricca (Walk The Moon), Sam Nelson Harris (X Ambassadors), Skylar Grey, Tim McIlrath (Rise Against), Tori Kelly and more. The greatest thing about this event is that proceeds will benefit PLUS1’s COVID-19 Relief Fund working in conjunction with MusiCares and Sweet Relief.

Top Artists

Along with Facebook and Hard Rock Hotel, your favorite artists are also taking it upon themselves to bless us with their musical magic by live streaming concerts right in their homes. Lady GaGa, Global Citizen, Sure Sure, Neil Young, Garth Brooks, and Metallica are just a handful of artists that are keeping the jams going during self isolation by creating some of the best live streams. Discover and Create Self Isolation Playlists

When you aren’t busy dancing the day away to live-streamed concerts, you may want to create or listen to playlists that keep your mood up. In the spirit of self quarantine, some very clever people have created self-isolation playlists. From Self Isolation Party playlist to Coronavirus Self Isolation playlist, you can enjoy songs from every music genre that are sure to give you a good chuckle. Song titles like “Don’t Fear the Reaper” and “U Can’t Touch This” add just the right amount of humor to lift our spirits during this trying time.

Other than discovering self isolation playlists, you can also utilize this down time to go through Spotify or Apple Music and create your own playlists. Whether you’ve been meaning to organize all of those songs in your “liked songs” album or you just want to create playlists for when you actually commute to work again, now is the perfect time. For an extra challenge, try to top the current self isolation playlists by using your music expertise to put together your own bundle of Coronavirus-themed songs.

Perform a Rockin’ Cover of Your Favorite Songs

Last but not least, stay on theme with music-related, self-quarantine activities by performing your own concert live from your bedroom. Not all of us have the pipes to bust out a solo from rock legends like The Rolling Stones or Aerosmith, but it sure is fun trying! You can even lip sync to your favorite songs and create the best air band ever. Not sure what song is the right choice for you? Discover what your theme song is, no matter what genre, with the help of our musical graphic!
